India aiming to build fastest supercomputer by 2017

The Telecom Ministry of India is planning to build fastest supercomputer in the world by 2017. The proposed supercomputer would be at least 61 times faster than any of today’s computer. Estimated expenditure for the project could go up to as much as Rs. 4,700 crore spanning next five years.
Currently, the fastest supercomputer in the world is by IBM named Sequoia which has computing speed of 16.32 petaflops. While India ranks 58th in the world with “the Cluster Platform 3000” with a top computing speed of 0.3 petaflops.
