Uttar Pradesh state government awarded contract to supply 1.5 million laptops for students passing standard XII during 2011-2012 academic year to HP. The entire order size is worth Rs.2,800cr with each unit priced at Rs. 19,058.
HP won this big ticket contract by defeating arch rivals such as HCL, Lenovo and Acer during bidding process. The configuration of laptop would be 14 inch screen, 500 GB HDD, 2GB RAM with one year warranty and support for English, Hindi and Urdu languages. HP would certainly gained from this huge contract and expected to restrict its falling market share in coming days.
